CoreAVC discount and HTPC v1.0

January 14th, 2010 hikky 8 comments

Are you eyes hurting when you have to watch low definition crap too?

At least mine are and as I’m watching HD stuff since many moons ago, I guess I’ve tried every codec pack out there.

A little bit over one year ago I found the best one: CoreAVC

Until January 17, 2010 you can get the new released version 2.0 with complete Windows 7 support and 64bit codec for $12.95 / €7,04.

Just head over to their page and enter “CES” (without apostrophes) into the discount field.

I’m actually wondering why I didn’t mention CoreAVC anywhere on my blog yet. Since back then

So what’s so great about CoreAVC?

Well, it’s the fastest software based codec to decode H.264/MPEG-4 AVC content.

But the really important and cool feature is that it supports Nvidias CUDA. (The geeks among you can stop reading here I guess.)

Why should you use you CPU to decode HD material when your GPU is way more suited for it? A cheap Geforce 8/9 pawns a 1000€ CPU with such tasks after all.

If you have chosen wisely and got an Nvidia card from Geforce series 8 upwards your CPU can rest while you are watching 1080p stuff. Cool eh?

Upgrades & a happy new year

Looks like I haven’t written anything since a few weeks. Why? I don’t know to be honest. Maybe because I was hiding from Christians and their Christmas crap or because nothing interesting and blog able happened lately. (And no, K-ON season 2 isn’t worth mentioning. There are more qualified series, deserving another season out there. K-ON is just a moe blob, fanservice anime. It’s way to overhyped.)

I was quite inactive on the blogosphere lately, for several reasons I will discuss in 2010 for sure. Sorry for that.

Now on to the topic:

As some of you might know… my bandwidth sucks big time. Until now that is. The chaps from Telekom Austria finally noticed that I would need more speed here in the middle of nowhere in the Austrian countryside. And as soon as it became available I ordered:

The AON Super Kombi!

  • 30Mbit down, 3Mbit up
  • AON TV + HD package (with a movie library ~300 movies available atm)
  • Phone of course

Delicious boxes get! Thompson VDSL router, splitter, AON Mediabox, Ruckus Media Acess Point.

Akiyama Mio Nendoroid

December 2nd, 2009 hikky 20 comments

Already got Mio yesterday from Hobbysearch thanks to EMS shipping. She is nearly sold out everywhere unless you are willing to spend 8000 Yen. O_O

Didn’t come up with a Nendo-Story this time cause I was busy fraging random folks @ Modern Warfare 2 ährm… studying Kanji.

(Sorry for the bad image quality but if you are willing to donate 500-600€ for a new camera feel free to do so. ^^;)

Mio on stage!

Introducing the Apple ReiPhone

November 27th, 2009 hikky 11 comments

Did you ever think about moe-ficating your smartphone? I did when I saw this Evangelion iPhone case lately somewhere on the interwebs. Being still fascinated by Evangelion 2.0 I couldn’t resist and ordered the Rei version. The only shop still having a few in stock was Strapya World. Haven’t heard about that shop before but looked quite solid and they didn’t disappoint me. The small package arrived here in less than two weeks, which is really good for SAL shipping.

Yup, although Danny is busier than usual over in Singapore at the moment @ AFA and such he send me an mail yesterday. Looks like there’s a bug causing all that weird stuff with my account and some of his mods are MacFags. So, Danny cares about his users… sometimes.

So I wasn’t banned. Good to hear that.

What I said about the look and feel of DC.com lately is still true cause it’s a fact that can’t be denied. I might still lurk over @ figure.fm sometimes.

November 15th, 2009 hikky 43 comments

Yeah, my blog roll is finally up to date!

Until now my blogroll was basically a copy & pasted link list from my old blog.

Revamped it a little bit as you can see here. It’s now displaying blogs ordered by their latest update together with the title of last published post.

Should work without problems but feel free to add any suggestions below.

Most probably I forgot to add some blogs so please add the following details in a comment below if you want to see your blog featured in my blogroll:

  • Blog name
  • Blog URL
  • A short description or tagline
  • RSS feed URL
