Windows 7 moefication 2.0

Looks like Madobe Nanami did a good job for Microsoft so far cause they released a few more

OS-tan theme packs for Windows 7 now. (Also available as zip file for Windows Vista or Windows XP.)

Have chosen the purple haired, red eyed girl with twin tails of course. She sounds so awesome. ^^

I recommend to set the sounds and wallpapers manually though. Cause otherwise you get messed up fonts (usually used on Japanese Windows systems) and weird coloured window colours.

Head over to this webpage ( http://campaign.live.jp/bing/download_s.htm#nanami ) to download either the theme pack if you have chosen wisely or if you are running an old OS the zip.

Note for Vista/ XP users: The zip file for contains only the sound files. I recommend to download the theme pack and unzip it to get the wallpapers too.

If you are a mac fag I’m very sorry but you can at least use the wallpapers contained in the zip file.

    How do you install the themepack in windows XP?
    I downloaded the Themepack file and it’s not recognized by my OS..

    ha, nice find.. maybe I’ll install it later on my desktop pc!

    @pauldy
    It won’t work out of the box on XP and Vista of course. You have to unpack the themepack (you can simply rename the file to *.zip) and set the wallpaper and the system sounds manually.

    Thanks, I’ve unzip it but somehow i think many files are missing.
    It i can select e.g. nana_b theme in the control panel but the OS says some files are missing…

    @pauldy
    Nope won’t work of course as this is designed for Windows 7. With manually I mean chose the wallpapers as you would select any other picture. Then go to sound settings and select the sounds for each event manually… one after another. Yah, it’s some work but the OS is already over 8 years old after all.

    Awwwwwww… I was gonna give it a go on my new Macbook. :(
    I’m still saving up for Win7 which is kinda a long way off. Might borrow my bro student discount card. xD

    Hm, you could just get rid of OSX and use it as aWindows 7 machine? xD
    W7 Ultimate x64 only costs around 140€ after all. Still cheaper than Snow Leopard and a Mac.

    There is also a second downloadsite at http://campaign.live.jp/bing/download_n.htm , where you can get a second win 7 themepack and also two additional zip-files (including wallpapers) for XP/Vista ^^

    (writing on WinXp here, still least amount of risk as a developer os, so don’t ridicule me)

    I notice that you have one single setup for games and applications on your Win7 box. Isn’t that a bit “untidy” (in lack of better words)?

    Example: Some games install weird “drivers” (read: copy protection) and leave crap upon uninstallation. On the other hand, applications hook themselves in autostart, create services that are enabled upon system startup and so on.
    To max out gaming performance, I naively assume, a Win7 installation solely dedicated to games would be the best option.
    Little risk of damaging the important productive system (read: browsing the net for … philosophical reading). No effin’ apple/adobe/ auto-updater bugging you. High frequency of driver update (nvidia, of course) does not harm the application environment.

    Thoughts?

    Ah thanks, will take a look.

    @battlecamel
    Looks like you are really afraid of loosing your Windows installation. ^_^ No offense.

    I really don’t see a need for a second partition with the same OS. Didn’t have any problems so far and if the system goes nuts: bad luck. But W7 looks really stable so far, I would be way more afraid with Win XP, didn’t really work for me, was always buggy. Should work fine now with SP3 but never used it with SP3 on my mainsys.

    Disk gets defragged and the registry cleaned every now and then, so no problem on that side.
    As for autostart apps: I’m usually deactivating everything that’s unecessary. Besides messengers, mail, tweetdeck and other essential background services.
    Drivers are updated asap anyway, and no problems usually, a Nvidia graphics card comes in handy. Maybe it’s different now but ATIs driver package was/ (is?) always a little bit chunky.

    Performance wise it wouldn’t make such abig difference. Yes, I can’t play games with the highest AA settings nowadays (–> need an upgrade–> no money–> orz) but the ressources are still enough, sort of.
    Isn’t rebooting just because you would like to play a game a little bit time consuming?
    Thanks for sharing your thoughts but I will stick with my current setup.

    Thanks for stating your opinion!
    I, too, was living with a games+apps environment in “the past”.
    Up until some “IT specialist” told me that this is a very bad idea – however with less emphasis on the game performance part, but rather on pollution of the app environment with game drivers and dirty uninstall remains.

    I guess, that time has passed. While I certainly would want to deactivate local Oracle and Apache, nowadays RAM / CPU configurations allow being a bit more lenient about maxing out the OS configuration for gaming.

    Now if only some good (PC) games were out there … ;)

    @battlecamel
    Hm, what do you mean with “game drivers”?

    Pollution of the app environment… hm I don’t install and uninstall 20 games every month ^^
    And what are the remains? The savegames?

    And yah performance isn’t really an issue, but my PC is 2 1/2 years old which means it would need a replacement since several months.

    Good PC games? Here you go: http://www.game.co.uk/Games/PC-Games/Mass-Effect-2-Collectors-Edition/~r344877/
    Mass Effect 2 Collectors Edition for 45€.. oh wait now its 50€. xD
    Still awesome considering that the crappy German CE costs over 90€!

    Have been thinking about preordering ME2. However, I never played the first part, although I recently bought it on Steam Winter Sale. I guess ME1 also is a decent PC game to start with.

    Agreed, “game drivers” is a bit vague. There were (and maybe still are) games that install some memory resident app (–> driver) which works as a means of copy protection. Some adventure game I bought years ago had this.

    And you’re right: Why uninstall games when you’ve got TB drives these days! Unless you work with a WD Raptor or even SSDs (and aren’t rich enough to buy them by the dozen).

    I’m getting my first Windows based machine in a few days (hi, I’m a Mac) and I’ll definitely be downloading this.
