Time to get a sort of real life o_O
As some of you know, I have been in service for 6 months in the Austrian Armed Forces. That’s the time every able-bodied male Austrian male citizen has to serve in our country.
I wanted to extend that time by starting a non-commissioned officer career. To be able to do that I planned to undergo an eye surgery cause cause I’m myopically (–9,25 dioptres, wearing contact lenses usually).
Unfortunately there is a stupid regulation for NCO candidates: You can not enter the NCO training if you had an eye surgery in the past! WTF? I could take part in a deployment abroad though, but after 3 years I would have the leave the army, with no change to get promoted or things like that. This means no army career for me!

Maybe the couldn’t think of an otaku as tank commander? Are there any otaku-soldiers out there?

That’s why I have to get a job in the civilian world now. Have sent out application documents to a few companies and waiting for the responses.
Would like to work as a hardware/software salesman or something like that. Having the newest hardware around you doesn’t sound that bad.

And helping noobs to find the right hardware for them and answering their computer questions sure is something that needs to be done. (The clip is not really related but too funny not to be posted.)

Inmoment habe ich zwar n sehr sicheren Job was die aktuelle Krise anbelangt aber ist weder mein gelernter Beruf noch in irgendeiner Art und Weise mein Traumberuf. Naja, mal schaun was sich ergibt.

Warum gehst du nicht zur Fremdenlegion? Oder Blackwater? Wenn du dir schon das Auge richten lässt, dann mach doch gleich auf Cyborg und lass dir ein TADS einsetzen. Hat auch den Vorteil, dass du auch sonst keinen Monitor mehr brauchst. Billig ist das nicht, aber man kann ja einen Kredit aufnehmen und die Kosten armortisieren sich auch recht schnell.

Hardware / software sales probably isn’t very satisfying – we’re talking “Fry’s electronic store” here, right? Another option could mean field work for large hw/sw companies like Sunracle (Oraclun?) or – as some would likely mention – NETAPP. ~_~’
You might want to try getting certified for MS (yeah, they’re “evil”, whatever
) or Sun products and work as a consultant / system integrator. Probably brings home some more bacon than the sales option.
(btw. “what is a file” isn’t too much of a silly question considering the UNIX system and its treatment of resources

Yah had something like that in mind. There sure are IT-jobs out there but I’m coming from the mechanical engineering branch. Not really able to pull of awesome stuff @ the software side .(+ I don’t wan’t to fail again. Had already too much FAILS in my life until now.)

ahhh was wondering exactly what could’ve happened to stop your plans short… quite a rude awakening ;_;
my friend has a slightly similar experience in that he couldn’t become a pilot due to his eyesight… though he was still able to get a position as a navigator or something, which he was content with.
