Picture hosting for my Blog, what would you do? [problem solved]
Problem solved thx to Len-Vesper!
You may have seen the problems I had last time to add a few huge pictures into an article .
This is caused by the combination of Windows Live Writer and WordPress if you add the source picture too.
There are three solutions for this problem:
Solution 1: Ugly Image Borders
By hosting the pics manually @ WordPress and just copying the link to Live Writer I would be able to present pictures with the ability to link it to the full sized picture.
But as you can see the borders aren’t very beautiful and it wouldn’t be very convenient for me to upload every picture manually to WordPress.
Solution 2: Small pictures
The next solution would be to upload pictures only with 600px width to match the blog layout. Nice border layout and effects would be available but with this solution you wouldn’t be able to click on them to get the full size pic.
Solution 3: Using FTP upload
This would be the best solution, cause I could add the source picture AND use nice borders.
The only problem is: FTP SERVER NEED!
Does anyone know a good, free web space provider (supporting FTP of course) with a nice amount of storage space?
So what would my readers like to see in the future? Do you have any suggestions or maybe a better solution ?

So long as no porn and stuff, I believe Photobucket is a good choice. I also heard Google hosts images (also no porn and stuff) but without bandwidth limits. Not sure though, but I guarantee it is difficult to break PB’s bandwidth limit per month, even if you do, just open another account, not too difficult.
I have a photobucket account but the problem is:
Max. 1MB filesize! and if I use a imagehoster like photobucket it’s the same like uploading to WordPress manually – no fancy thumbnails and not very convinient.
What I do is, using my FTP, upload a 400-wide image to match my blog’s layout, and have it link to the full-size picture (sometimes something else entirely).
Thing is, my blog is a blogger-powered blog hosted by myself (I bought my own domain/hosting for my portfolio).
I know you’re looking for something free…but I get 120GB of space, 2 free domain names, and pay 4.99 a month (with the first month free), over at 1&1 hosting.
Resize, why would you need pictures that are that big? It takes time to load for people and eventually turns readers off if pictures take too long to load, especially for pic-spam posts.
Otherwise you have to start looking for web hosts, there are no free ones for sure…oh wait. There is. Dasaku or Animeblogger. Did you read my post on Being a Better Blogger?
Wouldn’t you like to get full size pics if you find a nice pic somewhere?
It wouldn’t take longer cause it just loads the thumbnails with the “perfect” solution. But I think I will just upload the important pictures full sized.
Yeah, I did read your article, thx for the advice. As you are an advanced blogger, is there anything you would criticize here? Feel free to mention anything, pls.
For now the picture problem is solved, thanks to Len-Vesper from finetoo.org
How much is a web hosting package in your region, hikky? Is it expensive? Maybe you can get one cos the benefits are there to be taken!
I found out about that when I moved from free-hosting Blogger to paid-hosting WordPress, and I enjoyed the benefits. Although, there is the pros-cons about both! ^^
I think it wouldnt cost that much but atm money is short ^_^
Anyway problem solved, *topic closed* lol
What’s the problem you encounter when trying to upload huge pictures directly from Windows Live Writer? E-mail me, I can probably help.
Ossu, Hikky!
Use it to bring awesome and moe to the world. ZA POWAA IS YOURS
